Burn Ban Lifted in El Dorado County – Permits Required

A campfire burning on a rocky surface with a scenic mountain and river landscape in the background.

CAL FIRE Amador-El Dorado Unit has lifted the burn permit suspension for El Dorado County, effective Friday, October 17 at 8:00 a.m.

Residents may now resume residential debris burning in areas of state responsibility, but burn permits are required. Permits are available free of charge at burnpermit.fire.ca.gov.

Before you burn, please remember:

  • A valid burn permit must be obtained and available (printed or digital).
  • Only dry vegetation from your property may be burned — no garbage, lumber, or construction debris.
  •  Burn piles may not exceed 4 ft x 4 ft in size and must be surrounded by a 10-foot firebreak down to bare soil.
  • A responsible adult must attend the fire at all times with water, a shovel, and the ability to extinguish the fire.
  • Burning is only allowed on Permissive Burn Days — always check with the El Dorado County Air Quality Management District before lighting your pile.
  • Burn barrels are illegal in El Dorado County.

Even though burning is permitted, conditions can change quickly. Always check local weather, wind, and fire danger before you burn. Anyone found in violation of permit conditions or who allows their fire to escape may be held liable for suppression costs and damages.
