Firefighters Respond to Aircraft Down at Placerville Airport

Placerville, CA — Just after 5 PM on Friday February 18, 2022 Engine 25 of Placerville, Chief 7700 and Division Chief 7705 responded to an aircraft down at the Placerville Airport. Units arrived at the airport and discovered a single-engine 2005 Legend Cub that had skid off of the runway during a reported landing. The aircraft was stuck in dense brush approximately 10-20 feet down an embankment off of the south side of the runway. The pilot had self-extricated and was evaluated by Medic 61 of Georgetown Fire District prior to being released at scene. California Highway Patrol, El Dorado County Sheriff and Placerville Police Department also responded.

Firefighters rendered the aircraft safe from fire hazards and determined the fuel the aircraft had been carrying had leaked out into the ground. The fuel spill was reported to authorities and poses no immediate threat to people or animals in the area. The cause of the accident will be investigated by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
